WHY WOOL? 

Wool is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre that grows on sheep every year. Unlike synthetic materials wool is not derived from fossil resources and does not contribute to the spread of microplastics in the environment.

Sheep must be shorn at least once a year for animal welfare and hygiene reasons. Despite this large quantities of Swedish wool remain unused. In Sweden an estimated 50% of all wool is discarded each year.
 

By using Swedish wool we make use of an existing natural resource, reduce waste and support local agriculture while contributing to a more circular economy.


 

Swedish Wool 

FÅRTEX® uses exclusively wool sourced from sheep raised in Sweden. The sheep graze on natural pastures and have access to clean water, natural forage and high standards of care throughout the year. Their wool acts as a natural climate control system, keeping them warm during cold weather and cool in the summer.

High Standards of Animal Welfare

Sweden has one of the world's most comprehensive animal welfare legislations. 

The regulations cover areas including:

  • Nutrition

  • Housing and shelter

  • Health and veterinary care

  • Freedom of movement and natural behaviour
     

Sheep are raised under conditions designed to promote their welfare and natural behaviour.

 


 

100% Mulesing-Free Wool

Mulesing is a practice used in some parts of the world to prevent flystrike. This practice is not used in Europe. All wool used in FÅRTEX® comes from sheep that are 100% mulesing-free. We are committed to ensuring that animals are treated with respect throughout both their lives and the shearing process.

 


 

Local European Production

Freshly shorn wool is delivered directly from farms to regional collection centres where it is sorted according to quality.

The wool is then gently washed at traditional wool scouring facilities in Sweden or Belgium at approximately 70°C. This process removes dirt, plant matter and excess lanolin while preserving the fibre's natural qualities. After washing, the wool is further processed in Europe by experienced specialists to create a durable, high-quality fibre.

Excellent Thermal Regulation

Wool is one of nature's most advanced temperature-regulating fibres.

Its naturally crimped fibres trap insulating air, helping to retain body heat in cold conditions while preventing overheating when temperatures rise. Combined with its exceptional moisture management, wool creates a dry, comfortable microclimate in both warm and cold environments.

Unlike many synthetic materials, wool actively responds to changes in temperature and humidity, making it comfortable throughout the day and year.
 

Natural Moisture Management

Wool is both hydrophobic and hygroscopic.

It repels liquid water while simultaneously absorbing and releasing large amounts of water vapour without feeling damp.

Wool can absorb up to 35–36% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet, helping to maintain a comfortable and balanced environment.

Naturally Flame Resistant

Wool is naturally flame resistant and requires no chemical flame-retardant treatments.

Unlike synthetic fibres, wool does not melt or drip when exposed to fire. Instead, it chars slowly and is naturally self-extinguishing.

With an ignition temperature of approximately 570–600°C (1,058–1,112°F), wool contributes very little to flame spread and produces minimal smoke.

Natural Odour Control

Wool effectively manages moisture, creating an environment where bacteria struggle to grow.

This helps the material remain naturally fresh and resistant to odours.

Anti-Static and Dust Repellent

Wool is naturally anti-static, meaning it attracts less dust, lint and airborne particles than many synthetic materials.

Strong and Elastic

The molecular structure of wool acts like a natural spring.

A wool fibre can bend more than 30,000 times before breaking, compared with approximately 3,000 times for cotton.

This makes wool exceptionally durable, resilient and able to retain its shape over time.

A Circular Material

At the end of its service life, wool can be recycled or naturally biodegrade without leaving behind microplastics or harmful residues.
